The passionate drive behind Moalani comes from our founder, Martin Thormann. Raised in Germany and now having a family spanning four citizenships and multiple continents, he is based in Valencia, Spain, after living for extended periods in the UK, U.S., Denmark, and the Netherlands.
An ambitious, lifelong cyclist experienced in building custom bikes of all types, Martin prefers exploring the world from the saddle. Having traveled to nearly 80 countries with a bike in tow, he truly understands the challenges but also profound joys of cyclist's life on the road.
While our website is entirely in English 🇺🇲 ... wir sprechen auch Deutsch 🇩🇪 ... y hablamos castellano también 🇪🇸
Moalani’s true catalyst emerged when family life turned handling a massive bike box - plus strollers, children car seats and tons of other luggage - into a repetitive, logistical nightmare. Frustrated by baggage fees, expensive SUV rentals, and airline frame damage, we realized:
Bringing over 23 years of tech industry experience, Martin combined his profound bike expertise, love for global travel, and entrepreneurial mindset to redefine how roadies ride while circling the globe.
Have you ever loudly exclaimed:
Traveling with my bike should not be this difficult!
For decades, the cycling industry has forced riders into an uncomfortable compromise between the exhilarating feel of a true road bike and the convenience of traveling light. Cyclists traditionally had to choose between wrestling with massive, expensive travel cases or settling for commuter-style folding bikes that sacrifice speed, stiffness, and handling.
Moalani Travel Bikes was born from a visionary idea to eliminate this friction completely:
We believe exploring the world on two wheels should be an inspiring, seamless experience.
Like a passport to new horizons without the dread of oversized baggage fees, transit hurdles, or rental car anxiety.
By creating an entirely new category of bike that perfectly integrates into a dynamic, modern lifestyle, Moalani envisions a future where uncompromised high-performance cycling and effortless global mobility are no longer mutually exclusive.
Beyond building a better travel bike, Moalani harbors a larger ambition:
We want to fundamentally change the perception of small-wheeled bikes within the traditionally-minded road cycling scene.
While high-tech, performance-oriented mini velos are revered in parts of Asia, Western cycling cultures remain conservative. Riders often dismiss smaller wheels as quirky commuter compromises, favoring either the hyper-modern carbon aesthetic of the European peloton or the timeless metal craftsmanship celebrated in the U.S. and UK. Our goal is to bridge this cultural divide and shatter these preconceptions.
We are driven to prove a small-wheeled travel road bike can be a serious, beautifully engineered machine commanding respect on any group ride or alpine climb.
By blending the indestructible appeal of a titanium double-diamond frame with the aggressive geometry and integration demanded by speed aficionados, Moalani proves that travel convenience never means sacrificing the soul, speed, or style of a true road bike.
An innovative company does not exist in a vacuum; it thrives on dialogue and shared passion.
From the beginning, conceptualizing our frame platform has been a deeply collaborative process, involving extensive research and feedback from a community of bike industry experts, fellow cyclists, engineers, and frequent travelers. By engaging directly with riders globally, our development process remains transparent, agile, and constantly evolving to meet real-world demands.
Our collaborative ecosystem pushes the boundaries of additive 3D printing manufacturing and modern bike design, ensuring that the company grows organically without ever compromising on quality or visionary intent.
